Journey to my baby

It's almost 5 am, and I've been awake for 3 hours now...

Shortly before Nathan came into my life, sleep doesn't always happen in one long shift. He's been sleeping through the night for over a year now, Praise the Lord!

I remember a little less than two years ago, waking up in the middle of the night for no reason. I would toss & turn and then finally get up. I hate just lying in bed awake. Friends would joke that I was in the final stages of "pregnancy" and that my baby was waking me up. Ironically, my baby was in the final stages of his mama's pregnancy.

I also remember thinking about him all the time. Granted, I didn't even know if he exsisted yet, or whether he was a he. But, thoughts of a baby, my baby, would crash from my mind to my heart. I would start crying randomly throughout my day.

I realized while sitting here, reading blogs adoption, that I'm doing it again. Who knows, maybe the cooler weather makes me long to snuggle with a tiny little person.

Sitting here, listening to the rain, I wonder about my baby. How old is he/she? Has he/she even been conceived yet? What will he/she look like? How much pain will line my road to get that baby?

I've been thinking about decorating the front bedroom, just to be ready. I bought a baby monitor... for Nathan? haha

There are so many uncertainties both financially and with my health, but my faith is unwavering where this little one is concerned. Oh sure, I had my moment of fear, but I know God will bring me another little one to love.

Baby Time coming to an end

At Nathan's 9 month check up, the doctor told that over the next couple of months I need to begin weaning him. My goal, she instructed, is to have him off the bottle by his 1st birthday.

My first thoughts were financial. Hooray! No more expensive formula. No more washing dozens of bottles.

This morning however... I wanted to cry. Nathan was cuddled in close to me, taking his morning bottle. He makes lots of eye contact with his morning bottle. He isn't very fidgety, just happy to be so close to mommy. These moments will soon be nothing more than memories. Only, he won't remember them, they will be mine alone. I am grateful for them. They have helped bond us as mother and son. They have brought a closeness like nothing else.

Everyday he makes me realize that time is so short. Yesterday, I was at church talking to another lady. I looked up & saw my husband and son walking hand in hand. My heart swelled! (to clarify, Nathan can't walk on his own yet.)

So, I know that these days are quickly passing us. Soon he will be rushing to go play with his friends. I will smile and remember the days when he & I played and laughed and cuddled all day long.

Sewing Gifts

So, I have been kind of busy sewing. People are having babies, and that means gifts!! WooHoo!

I love these fabrics, and sewing with pretty fabric makes it so much more fun.

I made a couple of burp rags for a lady at church.

I have changed the way I make them & do a open seam, instead of turning them inward. I need to clean up the strays still. Overall, I like the look better. What do you think?

Also, I have added a ribbon ring.
Watermelons and Strawberries

This way you can loop them to the links that all baby's toys seem to have these days.

Next, I made something new... but I can't show it completely, because again, it's a gift!! Instead of telling you what it is, I'm curious to see if anyone can figure it out. Comment with your guess.

I *love* this fabric!! Hopefully the recipient loves it just as much!

This is my first time sewing on a "D" ring. I could have done better, but not bad for a first try.

Sewn in baby washcloth... or pocket, or both?

Folds for easy diaper bag storage.

Next I am making a pouch sling, again as a gift. I'll admit, I'm nervous about this one. So, I have of course waited until the absolute LAST minute... ugh, why do I do this to myself??

Climbing

Okay, I promised I would explain the mad baby picture.

After Nathan's morning nap, I heard him awake in his crib. So, I went in to get him ready for church. He was very happy and all fours. (I love when he wakes up like this.)

He got excited when I came in the room and crawled to the edge of his crib. He reached his hand up and touched the rail!!

He pulled himself to a stand all on his own.

Okay okay, maybe a little verbal coaxing from mommy, but no physical help whatsoever.

Now, for the mad baby picture. He was so excited and proud of himself. I was talking to him, clapping and taking more pictures. Well, he decided that he'd had enough and wanted mommy to pick him up. When I didn't do that fast enough, this happened...

Yeah, he's got personality!

Tonight while Mike was fixing him a bottle, he was playing on the ground in the living room. He saw me and crawled over to where I was sitting on the couch. Next thing I know, he pulled himself up and was standing!!

He won't even be 6 months old until next week!! What is going on & where is my baby?!?!
