Goings on

It's been a fun filled couple of days. (did I convince you??)

The last week or so, Nathan has been seriously working on cutting his I teeth. This kid really is a trooper. He doesn't get fevers, he doesn't even really get cranky when teething. The only thing he does get is diahhrea (yeah, I've said that word too much lately). Anyhow, his appetite has been fine and everything has seemed normal.

We went in for regular 12 month check up on Thursday. They took some blood from his finger to check some levels and such. I was told it was all normal at 12 month. Doctor came in, and was looking him over. Asked if everything was okay, I said yes... mentioned the pooh and subsequent rash (which he also rarely gets), but no worries, all seemed well.

Then the nurse came in with the blood test results. Doctor got quiet and read intently. I hate that by the way! One other time a doctor did that, and I wound up in the hospital. Anyhow, she said everything is normal, Nathan was just extremely dehydrated. To the point that she wanted to send us to the hospital. Since he had no outward signs of it, she decided to send us home, with orders to hydrate him. She also said to give lots of thick solids like mashed potatoes. Apparently solids help you absorb the liquid. Good to know.

I went to the store & got two kinds of electrolyte drinks and headed home, close to tears. I felt horrible. We spent the rest of the day putting "cup" in his hand, full of salty goodness.

The next morning we went in, he was weighed and had gained a full pound!! His levels were good and all was well. Doctor said no dairy for a week, and lots of water all long as diarrhea continues. ((sigh))

I'm learning so much as a mom. That no matter how much you think you know, a kid can throw you a curve ball.

We spent tonight playing, laughing and being grateful for a completely healthy year.

(((BIGHUG))) Mama, it's all a learning process! Sometimes you NEVER know they are dehydrated. Your doing a great job all around! Just an FYI for the diarrhea and his little bumm...try bag balm. If you put it on his bumm it will keep a barrier and that is just the bomb stuff!
Keep up the great work!
