I have purposely not gotten into politics much, if at all on this blog. I have done that on purpose. You probably won't see anymore of politics for quite a while after this one post.
I feel the need to speak my mind, if even briefly on a couple of things. Before I do, I will preface it by saying that I am a very conservative Christian. I vote my beliefs, not party lines. I would much rather be independent than align myself with either of the big parties.
History being made ~ I am glad for every Black Child that Mr. Obama was elected as President of the United States. I am grateful that our county has come so far that a man can be president, regardless of his skin color. As a mom, I love that I can tell my son to be whatever he wants. He will have no excuse! Mr. Obama paved that way, and for that, I am grateful. Young men can look to this man, and see accomplishment. Not only politically, but in his marriage.
However, I did not vote for him. (I was asked recently why I liked McCain. The simple answer? I don't. He was not the man I voted for in the Primary Elections.) Why did I not vote for Obama & play a part in making history? Because I do not believe in voting for a person simply on race. I do not agree with most of his views of where our country should be going. I do not believe in changing things for the sake of change.
Here's the main point of my post. He has been elected to be the next President of my country. I will give him the respect that his position demands. As a Christian, God requires me to submit to my authorities. Not ridicule them simply because I don't agree with them.
Romans 13:1-2 "Everyone must submit to governing authorities. For all authority comes from God, and those in positions of authority have been placed there by God. So anyone who rebels against authority is rebelling against what God has instituted, and they will be punished."
I am challenging myself and you as well, pray for this man. Pray for his wisdom in decisions, his family and those governing with him. Every time you are tempted to say something critical of him, pray instead.
