Growing

We went to the doctor yesterday for Nathan's 6 month check up. Everything went well and he got a clean bill of health ~ mostly.

He does have excema, so she gave me a prescription ointment for when it flares up.

He weighs 18 pounds 13 ounces and is 28 inches long. He is in the 95th percentile for weight & 97th for height. He is a big boy! The doctor even commented the he has such long feet.

Then she said something that made me as a mom want to tell her how wrong she was. Fortunately, I smiled and was very polite about it all. She was going through the checklist of things he "should" be doing by 6 months.

Mastered Skills (most kids can do)
• Turns toward sounds and voices• Imitates sounds• Rolls over in both directions

Emerging Skills (half of kids can do)
• Is ready for solid foods• Sits without support• Mouths objects• Passes objects from hand to hand

Advanced Skills (a few kids can do)
• Lunges forward or starts crawling• Jabbers or combines syllables• Drags objects toward himself


The only thing on all of this that he doesn't do is syllables. He jabbers like crazy, but there's no rhyme or reason to it. She kept on about it. Never mind the fact that he is advanced on everything else. Nevermind that fact that he is already trying to walk. Nevermind that fact that he watches our lips when we talk and that we constantly talk to him!

Can you tell that I love my baby and how dare she imply that there is a "problem"? haha! Personally, I think he is a genious and just doesn't care to share his thoughts yet. =)

Thankfully, this was not our usual doctor who seems to agree with me that Nathan is near perfect. ;)

Something fun that Nathan has learned recently is the art of drama. He has a definate fake cry and tries to use it for attention. I have said since he came home that he is a boy with a strong personality. It is showing more and more lately and I love it!! He will keep me on my toes and I think I will learn as much from as he from me.

I will post more about what's going on, but I wanted this to be all about Nathan.
