I wish I had pictures to go along with the experience we had today. Trust me when I say how cute it was, and the images will stay in my mind forever.
We got a blow up wading pool. We had the collapsible sided one last year, but our yard isn't level enough for it and it was a bit of a pain.
This is a decent 10'X6' wading pool and just under 2' deep.
Nathan has been in pools before, but we never tried to teach him anything. It was more for the fun of it. But, for this year I decided that he needs to learn to swim. I learned at a year old and believe it's a wonderful asset.
So, we took him out this afternoon just to get him used to being in deep (to him) water. He fell a couple times and got a little freaked out. It's fun with this age how you can turn it around so quickly though. We clapped and yayed real big when came up and soon he thought it was fun.
Then, we showed him how to blow bubbles and that when he puts his face under water, to blow out inside of sucking in. It took him some tries, but he got it! Once he learned that, falling wasn't bad in the water. He wasn't freaking out & knew how to get up without taking in water. This in it self would have been good, but he didn't want to stop with one lesson. Nope!
Next he was working on sitting down & scooting on his bottom. The water was right at his mouth, but he did great with little blowing out/spitting and not taking in the water. I didn't even realize that this was how I was moving in the pool until he started doing it.
I was having fun leaning against the sides & floating. So, he wanted to try that too. He didn't get it completely but was trying.
It was really amazing to watch him master these little skills so quickly. He set his mind on it and tries it over & over until he's got it. We were only in the water for a little over an hour.
Mike said he wants me to really work on getting him to swim this summer. Oh Darn! My job for the next couple of months is to spend time in the pool with my boy. I will manage somehow, don't you worry. haha I see myself losing the rest of this weight, and getting in shape ~ added perks to my job, you see. ;)
I promise there will be pictures next time.
