Spring Cleaning

Okay, I'm done depressing (or hopefully inspiring) you for now. Yep, for now... My heart is still burdened, and it will spill out onto these pages, I promise.

Back when we were in the adoption process, I had a lot of time to think. I was working part time, only 3 days a week. I was filling out paperwork that caused me to reflect on who I was & what made me that way. In some ways I hated it, I mean who wants to dig through the cobwebs of their psyche? Other ways though, I found out what makes me happy. What inspires me and what I love doing.

I love sewing! I'm not sure that I would have given into this passion had I not delved into who I am.

I also started looking around my house. I was cleaning one day, armed with a sponge and some bleach cleaner. This was my preferred method of cleaning for YEARS. The more my lungs burned, the cleaner my house must be getting. HA! Then I started thinking about newborn lungs burning. EEK! I began looking at all the chemicals in my home in the name of Clean. I began wondering, do I really need all of this stuff?? Nope!

Another thing I've found out about myself, I love making cleaners!

The only items in my cleaning bucket are:

baking soda
borax
vinegar
water
dish soap, dawn is great!
Dr. Bronner's Castille Soap
Essential Oils (optional for yummy scents)
Rags/Washcloths
MicroFiber cloth
scrub brush

Seriously, that's all it takes. Make it even better, it's all fairly cheap. Essential Oils seem expensive, but they last for months. What you would spend on chemical cleaners would more than pay for everything on my list, a couple times over.

I'm going to be sharing some "recipes" I've come across over the next few days. I hope you enjoy them and can work them into your cleaning regimen.

Floor Cleaner/Mop
Items Needed
*vinegar
*hot water
*essential oil ~ find the scent you love, it helps make cleaning easier. I love Lemongrass or Lavender.
*scrub brush or mop
*micro fiber rag

Mix equal parts of vinegar and water. Add a couple of drops of essential oil.
I like to keep this solution in a spray bottle. It's a great cleaner.
If you have hard wood floors, the micro fiber rag will help shine your floors and get excess water up.

Oddly enough, the question I get asked ALOT about using vinegar is "doesn't the smell bug you?" Nope! Once you detox from bleach and other chemicals, you will find the smell of vinegar refreshing. At least I do. To me it now smells like clean. Also remember, once dry, vinegar has no odor.

Can't wait for more recipes. I use a dawn soap, vinegar and water mixture to clean my bathtubs etc.

Hey, Kel!! :) I finally found dryer sheets on sale at Stater's yesterday. I ONLY use the unscented/no dye kind, and the cost for the name brands was ridiculous, even on sale! SO....that said....I found a recipe for fabric softener yesterday and can't wait to try it out!

4c hot water
2c baking soda
2c white vinegar
1 fabric softener ball
(though I'm thinking about just using it in the dryer on a washcloth and make it a dryer sheet)

Another thing I've read about is making "felt dryer balls" using wool yarn. Supposedly both the recipe above and the dryer balls even kill the dreaded static cling!

BTW...I LOVE the person you found inside you. She's even cooler than the other one I knew (and loved)!! :)

PS...Thank you for the response to my bible study dillema! I've decided to go with Bad Girls Of The Bible and workbooks for each book! :) I can't wait to get started!!!

Wow, I like the new layout! I use Google Reader so I never see the layouts...

I had to stop by and comment on this one... We use vinegar and newsprint on windows. It is a different smelling clean, but still nice. And what you said about newborn lungs is making me think about my asthmatic ones...

Sorry I don't always comment, but I hope you know I'm reading!
