Sewing for something practical

The last couple of days when I go in to get Nathan, he has his leg through the slots of his crib. It has been in up to his thigh. He is usually screaming & makes it very difficult to get him free. The first time it happened, I freaked. I really had to breath my way through it. I had visions of cutting his crib apart, or worse, hurting him.

So, when I was talking to Mike a few minutes ago, I told him that I wish the bumper pad covered the whole way up the crib. Nathan likes to push the pad down & put his limbs through.

Somewhere between the two of us, we decided that I will make something custom for our crib. It'll be a long piece of fabric that covers the entire rail. I'll use ties like the bumper pad, to keep it tight.

I'm excited about this, I have to say! I had already planned a trip to Hobby Lobby today anyhow, so I'll be picking up some fabric for this project. I love when my little hobby can be used for something practical around here. Makes me feel so useful! haha

Have you seen your hobby turned practical? I'd love to hear about it!

I don't know how practical evening/cocktail dresses are, but they make me feel pretty and I love them. My photos give me memories and gifts. My purses help me not lose my... well, my "life" goes in my purse. I'm also bigtime able to share my skills and help my friends.... But I can't think of an 'aha' moment where i realize I can be practical.
